Cradles to Crayons
This year, our philanthropy is Cradles to Crayons! Their mission: To provide children from birth through age 12, living in homeless or low-income situations, with the essential items they need to thrive – at home, at school and at play. They supply these items free of charge by engaging and connecting communities and hope that one day every child will have the essentials they need to feel safe, warm, ready to learn, and valued. Thanks to our previous service chair, Alex Vieria, we have been able to contribute to this organization through food drives and mission trips!

On December 7th, 2019, the Alpha Pi Chapter had a chance to go to Philadelphia and volunteer at Cradles to Crayons. The team left Friday night and stayed the night at one of our Brain Ta's house. After eating a home cooked meal and a goodnight's sleep, the volunteering began! In the morning, we were able to 'shop' for kids based on what supplies Cradles to Crayons had! Each pair of volunteers was able to learn the kids name and give them essentials such as winter coats, book bundles, and everyday shoes. During the lunch break, everyone shared some pizza and wings at a small place nearby the warehouse. Lastly, the group started their second shift where that sorted winter gloves and hats so children can stay warm AND look fashionable. Thank you to everyone who went on the trip, Alex Vieira (our service chair) for planning the trip, and Brian Ta for hosting. We are big supporters of Cradles to Crayons and hope to return soon.
